Yale knows secure locks. Nest knows the connected home. Together, they’ve made a tamper‑proof, key‑free deadbolt that connects to the Nest app. Now customers can lock and unlock their door from anywhere. Residents can give people they trust a passcode, instead of a key, and always know who comes and goes.
When the Nest x Yale Lock is connected to the Nest app, residents can unlock their door from their phone. Create passcodes for family, guests and trusted people. Even set times when passcodes expire. Residents can get alerts whenever someone unlocks and locks the door. And when Nest knows residents are away, the door can lock automatically.
The Nest x Yale Lock replaces the deadbolt customers already have. The lock uses 4 standard AA alkaline batteries (rechargeable batteries not recommended). If someone tries to tamper with the lock, residents will get an alert. If the batteries start running low, residents will know right away. When the batteries become critically low, residents will be notified again, before they’re completely depleted. And if the lock loses power completely, residents can quickly charge it with a 9V battery to unlock the door.
The Nest x Yale Lock connects to the home's Wi-Fi and the Nest app through Nest Connect or Nest Guard. The Nest x Yale Lock doesn’t connect directly to Wi-Fi. Instead it uses Weave to connect to a Nest Connect or Nest Guard in the home. The Connect or Guard, which are connected to a Wi-Fi network, allows the lock communicate with the Nest service in the cloud and the Nest app on a phone. If installing multiple locks, installers may only need one Nest Connect to work with the locks. If the doors are far apart, installers might need more than one Nest Connect.
The Nest x Yale Lock can replace most common deadbolt locks. It will fit several standard door thicknesses:
- 1 3/8" (35 mm) Thick
- 1 3/4" (44 mm) Thick
- Between 2" - 2 1/4" (51 - 57 mm) Thick
The door can be any width or height. Only the thickness and backset matter. The Nest x Yale Lock can be used with wood, metal, or fiberglass doors. The Nest x Yale Lock is not designed to be used on glass or sliding doors. It was also not designed to work with Mortise locks or multi-point locks.
